Former Premier League midfielder and pundit Danny Murphy has shared his predictions regarding the sanctions Manchester City could face after being found guilty of 114 out of 115 Premier League financial charges.

Murphy expressed surprise at the verdict given the club’s consistent defense of their innocence and their powerful legal team, while anticipating that the appeal process will likely be lengthy. Regarding potential punishments, he believes that stripping the club of previously won titles would be pointless, as the emotional experience and satisfaction of winning would not genuinely transfer to the runners-up years later.

Instead, Murphy predicts that the Premier League will hand down a combination of three major punishments to send a strong message to the football world:

Alternatively, he noted that the club’s best-case scenario under severe scrutiny might involve a heavy points deduction for the current season alongside the record fine and a multi-year transfer ban.
