The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) hosted its sixth annual “Innovative Housing Showcase” on the National Mall in Washington, transforming the area into a neighborhood to highlight the next generation of home building and development technology.
The event, which ran from Tuesday through Thursday, featured a collection of mid-construction and fully assembled homes, each incorporating new elements and technologies aimed at addressing the housing affordability and availability crisis. HUD Secretary Scott Turner emphasized that the showcase highlights American innovation and technological advancements, while noting that HUD works on addressing policy challenges and reducing bureaucratic red tape and regulatory barriers that stifle development.
Exhibitors at the event included innovators like Larry Singleton, founder of Singleton Designs in Talking Rock, Georgia, who showcased a fast, affordable housing construction concept designed to keep building work within local communities rather than shipping modular homes hundreds of miles away.
