The Twin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has completed its reviews of two separate Critical Incident Task Force investigations involving Twin Falls Police Department officers, resulting in no criminal charges being filed in either case.

The first review involved the April 29, 2026, officer-involved shooting of Colton J. Copeland. The Cassia County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation, which was then reviewed by the Ada County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. After examining police reports, body camera and surveillance footage, medical records, and other evidence, it was determined that the actions of the officers involved were justified under the circumstances.

The second review involved a use-of-force incident during the Canyon Park West mass shooting on August 1, 2026, which was investigated by the Jerome Police Department. Twin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney Grant Loebs determined there was insufficient evidence to support criminal charges against the officer involved, concluding that the officer reasonably believed he was acting to defend civilians fleeing the active-shooter scene.
