China’s latest giant panda diplomats, a male named Ping Ping and a female named Fu Shuang, are en route to Zoo Atlanta as part of a conservation and research agreement between Zoo Atlanta and the China Wildlife Conservation Association.

The upcoming arrival was officially announced by Chinese leader Xi Jinping as a gesture of goodwill and friendship toward the United States during a high-profile summit. Both pandas were born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China and have completed quarantine preparations and flight training for their journey.
