• Wedela Township (Near Johannesburg): At around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night, approximately eight armed men arrived at a tavern in Wedela, in the West Rand district. Armed with AK-47 assault rifles and pistols, the attackers opened fire on patrons outside before entering and continuing to shoot inside. Seventeen people (13 men and four women) died at the scene, and 15 others were wounded. The gunmen also stole mobile phones from victims and set two parked vehicles on fire before fleeing in two cars.

• Lwandle (Near Cape Town): A second shooting took place around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday at a venue in Lwandle, outside Cape Town. Gunmen entered the establishment and opened fire on patrons, killing 10 peoplefive at the scene and five who succumbed to their injuries in the hospitaland leaving 11 others wounded.
