Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell announced the death of his father, Jim, sharing an emotional tribute centered on his Christian faith before deactivating his social media account. As a result, the Raiders listed him as inactive for their Week 3 matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

In his statement, O’Connell expressed deep grief while honoring his father’s memory and impact:

“It is with immense sadness that I share the passing of my Dad, Jim. My Dad was a gift to me and to so many others. All who were fortunate enough to know him can testify to the great man he was. He impacted countless lives, and those who knew him were better for it.”

He explained that his family is relying on faith and scripture to navigate the loss, citing the Heidelberg Catechism:

“‘My only comfort in life and death is that I am not my own, but belongbody and soul, in life and in deathto my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.’ Rest in peace, Dad. We love you and will miss you more than words can say.”

O’Connell, who was drafted by Las Vegas in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has appeared in 21 games for the franchise, totaling 3,932 passing yards and 20 touchdowns.
