A 35-year-old woman died following a multi-vehicle crash caused by a wrong-way driver on Chicago’s South Side.
The incident occurred late Sunday night when a man driving a black sport-utility vehicle headed south in the northbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive near the Oakwood Boulevard exit. The SUV struck a white sedan head-on, triggering a chain-reaction collision that also involved a black coupe.
The female driver of the white sedan was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to her injuries. The drivers of the other vehicles involved did not sustain injuries, and the driver of the black SUV was taken into police custody.
The northbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive were temporarily closed near Oakwood Boulevard as emergency crews managed the scene, with the Chicago Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Unit handling the ongoing investigation.
