The decision comes following intense public outrage and a civil lawsuit filed by a former Cornell student. In her complaint, the woman alleges that she was pressured into consuming substances and subsequently sexually assaulted by seven fraternity members at the Chi Phi house in October 2024. Although she initially reported the incident to campus police at the time, no criminal charges were filed initially, leading the district attorney to face widespread public scrutiny over the lack of prosecution.
