An Elgin man, Darnell L. Rhodes, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of aggravated kidnapping causing great bodily harm, a Class X felony.

According to prosecutors, Rhodes and two other individualsLloyd D. Hayes Jr. and Roger A. Heapskidnapped a woman they knew between March 13 and March 14, 2023. The trio threatened the victim with a knife, drove her to one of their residences, and bound her with electrical cords. During the multi-hour ordeal, the woman was severely beaten and stabbed multiple times before managing to survive the attack.

Following a jury trial where he was found guilty, Rhodes received his 15-year prison sentence in Kane County. His co-defendants also faced prosecution, with Heaps previously pleading guilty to armed violence and receiving a 20-year sentence.
