Jonathan McKinsey, a 40-year-old technology executive and director of engineering for New York Times Games, was shot and killed in broad daylight in the parking lot of the Dublin Sports Grounds in Dublin, California.

Police arrested his elderly in-laws, 77-year-old Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, at the scene in connection with the shooting. They were booked into Alameda County’s Santa Rita Jail facing charges that include first-degree murder, felony conspiracy, and related firearms and child endangerment offenses.

Court records show that McKinsey and his wife, Candice Jang, had been involved in contentious legal disputes over the preceding year, including domestic violence restraining order requests, ongoing child custody litigation, and a divorce filing initiated by McKinsey in late 2025.
