Orange County leaders and community activists gathered to demand accountability, clarity, and safety assurances ahead of GKN Aerospace’s planned return to full operations. This follows a major chemical tank crisis in May, when a compromised tank holding thousands of gallons of methyl methacrylate (MMA) at the Garden Grove facility overheated, prompting the evacuation of roughly 50,000 residents.

Although the Orange County District Attorney’s office previously concluded its criminal investigation and noted that manufacturing could resume contingent on safety compliance and a court-approved plan, local officialsincluding Garden Grove Mayor Stephanie Klopfensteinprotested that the company was trying to resume operations without proper local approvals or a public forum. Residents expressed ongoing fears regarding long-term health impacts and proximity to hazardous materials, while GKN stated that it is targeting a phased, safety-first resumption of operations while working toward a full resolution with officials and managing a $100 million damages claim program.
