Tropical Storm Polo made its initial landfall as a hurricane in Mexico’s Baja California Sur, then crossed the Gulf of California to make a second landfall in Sonora, Mexico. After weakening and moving northeastward, the storm’s remnants were tracked heading toward the southwestern United States, bringing heavy rain, potential flash flooding, and gusty winds to regions extending from Arizona and New Mexico toward the Central Plains. More than 14 million people faced flood risks as the system progressed across the Southwest.
