(sonny gray) Why is this trending now
01-10-2026
Sonny Gray is trending primarily because he is starting on the mound for the Boston Red Sox in a high-stakes, must-win postseason matchup against his former team, the New York Yankees.
Key factors driving the interest:
Postseason Elimination Game: The Red Sox are facing elimination in the American League Wild Card Series, putting their season on the line with Gray taking the mound.
Revenge / Narrative Arc: Gray famously struggled during his tenure with the Yankees in 2017–2018 before revitalizing his career elsewhere. Starting an elimination playoff game back in the Bronxwearing the uniform of New York’s fiercest rivalhas drawn major attention from national media, baseball fans, and commentators alike.
Live Matchup Attention: He is actively pitching in Game 2 of the series, generating heavy real-time discussion across social platforms and sports boards tracking each pitch and inning.
