Donald began experiencing back issues following the Rams’ Week 3 defeat to the Denver Broncos and was unable to practice throughout the week. While McVay noted that the veteran star would push through the discomfort and play if allowed, the team decided to err on the side of caution. McVay explained that coaching staff and medical personnel have a responsibility to protect exceptionally tough competitors “from themselves” to avoid risking long-term health, rather than letting Donald play through the pain.

While Donald remains sidelined for the game, the Rams’ offense is slated to receive a boost with wide receiver Puka Nacua returning to the lineup after missing two games with a hip issue.
