Breaking: Ocean City FD responds to multiple swimmers in distress, tell me about this news today
03-10-2026
The Ocean City Fire Department (OCFD) in Maryland responded to a rescue operation near 19th Street after three swimmers were caught in dangerous surf.
Rescue swimmers deployed into the water alongside support from the Ocean City Police Department Drone Unit, the Maryland Natural Resources Police, and Maryland State Police Aviation. Two swimmers were brought safely back to shore by fire department rescue personnel, while a third was pulled onto a Natural Resources Police boat and taken to the local U.S. Coast Guard Station. Following medical assessments, one person was transported for further evaluation, while the other two declined additional treatment.
The incident prompted officials to issue a strict swimming advisory. Recent coastal storm activity shifted sandbars along the beach, creating breaks that generate powerful, unpredictable rip currents. Because the Ocean City Beach Patrol ended its regular season in late September, beaches are currently unguarded, leading emergency officials to urge visitors to stay completely out of the ocean.
