Originally slated to face reigning champion Valentina Shevchenko, Silva’s title opportunity shifted to a vacant belt bout against Wang after Shevchenko had to step aside due to an injury. Coming off high-profile victories over former champions Jessica Andrade, Alexa Grasso, and Rose Namajunas, Silva entered the event as the top contender on an eight-fight UFC winning streak.
