Sky News viewers issue same Burnham complaint after breaking election alert, tell me about this news today

The headline refers to widespread viewer frustration on social media following a breaking news alert from Sky News regarding Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham during election coverage.

Viewers voiced the same primary complaint: Sky News treated Andy Burnham’s mayoral victory as an urgent, dramatic “Breaking News” alert, despite the result being widely anticipated as a foregone conclusion. Many took to platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to complain about receiving sudden push notifications and on-screen red-banner interruptions for a routine, predictable re-election result rather than genuine, unforeseen breaking news.

Additionally, viewers expressed annoyance that Sky News repeatedly centered its broadcast and alert system on Burnham’s speech and victory while cutting away from or delaying updates on closer, more contested local counts and council declarations across the UK.
