A Wake County Superior Court judge ordered Raleigh-area wedding photography and videography company Azul Photography (along with its parent entities and owner) to pay nearly $1.7 million following an investigation and lawsuit led by the North Carolina Department of Justice and Attorney General Josh Stein.

What Happened

Azul Photography abruptly ceased operations and shut down, leaving hundreds of couples stranded without the photography or videography services they had booked and paid for in advance. In many cases, couples were left without:

  • The contracted coverage on their wedding days.

  • Promised edits, highlight reels, or raw footage from weddings that had already occurred.

  • Any direct communication or immediate refunds after deposits and full payments were collected.

The Judgment & Financial Penalties

The total judgment of approximately $1.68 million breaks down into two main components:

  • Restitution: Roughly $680,000 designated to compensate the affected couples who lost money or never received their wedding media.

  • Civil Penalties: Approximately $1 million in civil penalties for violating North Carolina’s Unfair and Deceptive Practices Act.

Legal Injunctions

In addition to the monetary penalty, the court issued permanent injunctions barring the owners and associated operators from engaging in deceptive business practices, taking advance payments without fulfilling services, and operating similar photography/event business schemes in the state without strict oversight.
