During the hearing, Flynn sobbed as he delivered an emotional statement to the court, specifically addressing his daughters and family. He apologized tearfully for breaking his wedding vows, leading a secret double life, and causing devastating pain, though he maintained that he did not commit the murder. One of his daughters also delivered an impact statement during the proceedings.

The sentence follows his late September conviction on charges including aggravated murder and tampering with evidence. In February 2026, Ashley Flynn, a 37-year-old teacher, was shot twice in the back of the head while sleeping in their Tipp City home while their children were asleep. Flynn had staged the scene to make it appear as a botched burglary or home invasion. Prosecutors dismantled his claims using digital activity from his phone and watch alongside more than 100,000 text messages between Flynn and his mistress, including texts sent just hours before the killing stating, “I choose you. I’m free. Actions will come tomorrow”. Judge Jeannine Pratt imposed the life sentence without parole, alongside consecutive years for tampering with evidence and firearm enhancements.
