During the match, Gyökeres was caught in the face by an opponent’s stray elbow during a physical duel in the box. In a subsequent chance where he failed to convert, lighthearted social media chatter and media headlines jokingly suggested he “missed on purpose” out of frustration or shock from the hit.

In post-match comments, Gyökeres addressed the incident, brushing off any serious harm while acknowledging the physical, bruising nature of the clash and expressing satisfaction at securing the three points for Sweden.
