Tracking Tropical Storm Isaias: Interactive storm radar, latest cone, models and satellite, tell me about this news today

Tropical Storm Isaias has formed over the Gulf of Mexico and is forecast to rapidly intensify, with meteorologists projecting it could reach hurricane strength before making landfall along the northern U.S. Gulf Coast.

Here is what the latest updates, models, and tracking data show:

• Current Status and Intensity: The storm’s center is circulating in the Gulf, packing tropical-storm-force winds that extend outwards as the system continues to consolidate over warm open waters. Forecasters anticipate rapid organization into a Category 1 hurricane as it tracks northward.

• Forecast Cone & Path: The National Hurricane Center’s latest forecast cone centers risk on the northern Gulf Coast, covering areas from southeastern Louisiana across coastal Mississippi and Alabama to the Florida Panhandle. Hurricane watches and tropical storm warnings are being posted across the targeted coastal stretches.

• Computer Models (Spaghetti Tracks): The consensus among primary dynamical models (such as the GFS and ECMWF) steers the cyclone north to north-northeast through the end of the week, with moisture expected to sweep across the Southeast before potentially lifting toward the Mid-Atlantic and Ohio Valley by next week.

• Satellite & Radar Observations: Radar loops and infrared satellite imagery show intensifying deep convection and expanding outer rainbands feeding into the central low. Heavy squalls and outer bands are forecast to begin impacting coastal zones ahead of the center’s arrival.

• Local Impacts & Preparations: Projected rainfall totals range from 3 to 6 inches, with localized amounts reaching up to 10 inches, creating significant flash flooding and storm surge risks. A state of emergency has already been declared across dozens of counties in northern Florida to stage emergency resources and prepare coastal communities.
