Enzo: The story behind this trend in Social Media today
08-10-2026
Enzo is trending because of Enzo Fernández’s raw reaction during Lionel Messi’s farewell to the Argentina national team. After Argentina beat Benin 3-0 at the Monumental in Buenos Aires, Messi took the microphone in front of more than 85,000 people and spoke for several minutes. He called it possibly the saddest day of his career, reflected on more than twenty years with the national team, thanked teammates he described as warriors, and said he did not want to leave the pitch or stop defending the jersey. Cameras caught Fernández standing nearby, head down, covering his face, then looking up in tears he could not hold back. He was widely described as the most visibly broken of the group.Afterward he told reporters it had been an emotional day full of mixed feelings, that he hoped Messi had enjoyed it, that they would miss him a lot, and that what he cried was “horrible, terrible.”The moment hit harder because of their history. As a teenager in 2016, Fernández wrote Messi a letter begging him not to quit the national team, calculating ages to see if he might ever share a dressing room with him. He later did, winning the 2022 World Cup alongside him. Clips of the tears spread quickly and became the reason the name trended.
