The Kingdom of Tonga, often called the “Friendly Islands,” is a sovereign Polynesian archipelago located in the southern Pacific Ocean. As the only Pacific nation to never fully lose its indigenous sovereignty to a foreign power, Tonga boasts a distinct cultural heritage alongside stunning natural landscapes.

Tonga consists of approximately 171 islandsaround 45 of which are inhabitedstretching across 800 kilometers (500 miles) in a north-south line. The archipelago is divided into three primary island groups:
Tongatapu Group: Home to the capital city, Nukuʻalofa, as well as the majority of the nation’s population. It is predominantly flat and formed by coral limestone.

The climate is tropical, characterized by a warm, humid wet season from November through April and a cooler, drier period from May through October.
