World Series Champion Warns Looming MLB Lockout Could ‘Absolutely’ Cancel Games
Former New York Yankees outfielder and World Series champion Nick Swisher warned that a looming Major League Baseball work stoppage could “absolutely” lead to cancelled regular-season games.
Speaking on the labor standoff ahead of the expiration of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association (MLBPA), Swisher pointed to the deep divide between team owners and the union. At the center of the dispute remains the contentious issue of a salary cap and floor system, an economic framework owners continue to push for competitive balance, but one the MLBPA has historically and fiercely rejected.
With negotiations showing little common ground on core economic philosophies, Swisher expressed serious concern that regular-season baseball could face significant disruptions and schedule cancellations if neither side blinks before the deadline.
