Kentucky Shocks LSU with Second-Straight Walk-Off Two-Point Conversion in Overtime Thriller

LEXINGTON, Ky. In one of the most dramatic finishes of the college football season, the Kentucky Wildcats pulled off a stunning 35-34 overtime upset over the No. 10 LSU Tigers at Kroger Field. For the second consecutive week, head coach Will Stein eschewed the game-tying extra-point kick in the extra session, opting instead for a gutsy, walk-off two-point conversion that ignited a massive field-storming celebration in Lexington.

The victory marks historic back-to-back walk-off overtime triumphs for Kentucky (5-1, 3-1 SEC), coming just one week after executing the identical strategy to topple South Carolina. Kentucky becomes the first program in FBS history to secure back-to-back overtime victories via walk-off two-point conversions.

How Kentucky Forced Overtime Against No. 10 LSU

LSU appeared primed to close out the Southeastern Conference showdown late in the fourth quarter, but Kentucky quarterback Kenny Minchey engineered a clutch 9-play, 67-yard two-minute drill. Wildcats kicker Adam Zouagui shook off two earlier fourth-quarter misses to drill a high-pressure field goal with just 12 seconds remaining on the clock, locking the score at 27-27 and sending the game into overtime.

The Overtime Showdown and the Bold Two-Point Decision

LSU took the opening possession of overtime and quickly punched into the end zone, converting the subsequent extra point to claim a 34-27 advantage.

Needing a touchdown to stay alive, Kentucky answered immediately. Running back CJ Baxter, who powered the Wildcats ground attack with 123 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, set up Kentucky’s scoring strike. Rather than sending the kicking unit out to force a second overtime period, Stein signaled for the game-deciding two-point attempt.

Minchey took the shotgun snap, faked an inside handoff, and rolled toward the pylon, scampering untouched across the goal line to finalize the 35-34 upset and deal LSU its second conference loss of the year.
