Jets Defender Minkah Fitzpatrick Delivers Brutal Hit to Browns Rookie Wide Receiver KC Concepcion, Knocking Him Out of the Game

A collision disrupted the Week 6 matchup between the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets at MetLife Stadium when Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick delivered a crushing hit to Browns rookie wide receiver KC Concepcion. The play resulted in an unnecessary roughness penalty and knocked Concepcion out of the game with a head injury.

Helmet-to-Helmet Collision and Penalty Ruling

During Cleveland’s second possession in the first quarter, Concepcion went up to secure a pass over the middle of the field. Fitzpatrick closed in and delivered a direct helmet-to-helmet hit to the defenseless pass-catcher.

• The Flag: Game officials immediately threw a flag and penalized Fitzpatrick 15 yards for unnecessary roughness (hit on a defenseless receiver). It marked Fitzpatrick’s second personal foul on that same drive.

• No Disqualification: While the hit drew sharp scrutiny from the Cleveland sideline, the officiating crew determined the play did not meet the threshold for an automatic ejection, allowing Fitzpatrick to remain in the game.

Injury Update: KC Concepcion Ruled Out

Concepcion remained down on the turf for several moments as team medical personnel rushed out to evaluate him. The first-round pick was eventually able to sit up and walk off the field under his own power before heading into the locker room.

Shortly after the evaluation, the Browns officially ruled Concepcion out for the remainder of the contest due to a head injury. He entered the league’s concussion evaluation protocol.

Impact on the Browns’ Offense

Losing Concepcion represents a major setback for the Browns’ passing attack:

• Concepcion entered the matchup as a top target for Cleveland, having logged 17 receptions for 144 yards through the first four weeks.

• With Concepcion sidelined, the Browns will rely heavily on fellow rookie wideout Denzel Boston, tight end David Njoku, and veteran receiver Jerry Jeudy to carry target volume.

Fitzpatrick’s hit is expected to undergo standard weekly disciplinary review by the NFL league office, which could result in a fine for a helmet-to-helmet hit on a defenseless player.
