Donald Trump Reposts Fabricated Denzel Washington Endorsement Despite Fact-Checks

Donald Trump shared a fabricated endorsement attributed to Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington on Truth Social, amplifying a viral political claim that fact-checkers had already debunked.

The circulating post featured an image of Washington alongside an entirely fictitious quote claiming the actor called Trump a “great friend and an even better president,” describing him as the bravest and smartest person he had ever met. Despite gaining traction among online supporters, the statement has no factual basis. Independent fact-checking organizations verified that Washington never uttered the words, noting that identical fabricated quotes have previously been misattributed to other celebrities, including Matthew McConaughey and Mick Jagger.

Washington has repeatedly been the target of fabricated political endorsements on social media. Representatives for the actor have previously stated that viral claims detailing his political allegiances are complete fabrications. While public figures frequently face viral misinformation campaigns, Trump’s decision to recirculate the debunked meme to millions of followers has renewed scrutiny over high-profile social media verification and celebrity political endorsements.
