Jake Bauers Breaks Down Epic Postseason At-Bat with John Smoltz Following Brewers NLCS Game 2 Victory
MILWAUKEE Fresh off the Milwaukee Brewers securing a commanding 2-0 series lead in the National League Championship Series, slugger Jake Bauers joined Hall of Famer and broadcaster John Smoltz to provide a pitch-by-pitch breakdown of the pivotal postseason at-bat that swung the game’s momentum.
The breakdown offered fans an inside look at the high-stakes tactical chess match between hitter and pitcher during October baseball. With runners in scoring position and the opposing bullpen executing high-leverage sequencing, Bauers detailed his mechanical adjustments, pitch recognition, and approach under pressure.
Pitch Sequencing and Mechanical Adjustments
Walking Smoltz through each delivery, Bauers explained how he stayed disciplined against off-speed pitches early in the count before capitalizing in a crucial two-strike situation:
Hunting the Zone Early: Anticipating elevated fastballs, Bauers laid off tight borderline breaking balls designed to induce chasing outside the strike zone.
Two-Strike Battle: Facing elimination in the count, Bauers shortened his swing path to protect both edges of the plate, fouling off tough pitches to extend the confrontation.
The Decisive Swing: Spotting a hanging breaking ball on the inner half, Bauers drove the ball into the gap, sparking Milwaukee’s dugout and widening the margin.
Smoltz praised Bauers’ barrel control and poise under pressure, highlighting how situational awareness and stubborn plate discipline remain decisive factors in playoff baseball.
Brewers Command NLCS Lead Heading into Game 3
Milwaukee’s game-clinching surge underscores their balanced postseason attack, pairing elite bullpen management with timely, disciplined run production. Holding a 2-0 series lead, the Brewers now head on the road with clear momentum as they look to capture two more wins and punch their ticket to the Fall Classic.
