Zelensky Accuses Russia of Violating Trump’s Surprise Energy Ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia breached an “energy ceasefire” announced by U.S. President Donald Trump shortly after it was declared effective.

Trump had announced on social media that an immediate mutual truce targeting energy infrastructure had been agreed upon by both Ukraine and Russia. However, Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces launched overnight drone and missile strikes against Ukrainian energy infrastructure and gas production facilitiesincluding sites operated by state energy firm Naftogaz in the Kharkiv region.

Addressing the situation, Zelensky noted that while Ukrainian forces had refrained from striking Russian refineries following the diplomatic announcement, Moscow continued its bombardment of power grids and critical energy assets. Zelensky called on Washington to enforce compliance if any truce is to hold, while Kremlin officials indicated that discussions regarding potential terms were still in progress.
