Why Rick Azevedo Is Trending Now: The Battle Over Brazil’s 6×1 Work Schedule

Rick Azevedo is a Brazilian activist and politician who has captured national and international attention as the driving force behind the movement to abolish Brazil’s grueling 6×1 work schedule (six days of work for one single day off).

A former retail shop worker who gained virality on TikTok documenting the exhaustion of endless shifts, Azevedo founded the Vida Além do Trabalho (VAT – Life Beyond Work) movement. His grassroots labor activism transformed him into a prominent political figure, culminating in his election as a city councilor in Rio de Janeiro (PSOL) and his subsequent rise to the National Congress as an elected Federal Deputy.

Key Reasons Rick Azevedo Is Trending

• The 6×1 Workweek Abolition Movement (PEC 6×1): Azevedo’s core campaign seeks a constitutional amendment to reduce standard working hours, arguing that one day of rest per week is insufficient for mental health, family life, and physical well-being.
