Donald Trump posted what appeared to be the personal cellphone number of Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton on Truth Social, urging followers and Arkansas voters to call Cotton directly to pressure him to stop blocking the Sunshine Protection Act.
ANI NewsWhat HappenedThe Post: Trump published a message describing Cotton as a “friend” who is single-handedly holding up the legislation in the Senate. He told people in Arkansas to “Call Tom on his cellphone at [number] and let him know” that passing the bill would be a major bipartisan win.
ANI News+ 1The Phone Number: The digits shared featured an Arkansas area code and did not match any of Cotton’s publicly listed Capitol or district office numbers. Reporters and callers attempting to reach the line reported that it routed directly to an unbranded voicemail box that quickly filled up to capacity.
MediaiteThe Legislation: The Sunshine Protection Act proposes ending the biannual changing of clocks and permanently locking the United States into Daylight Saving Time. The bill cleared the House of Representatives in a 308–117 bipartisan vote, but has stalled in the Senate.
ANI News+ 1The Reason for the Dispute: Cotton has been a vocal opponent of permanent Daylight Saving Time, arguing in past floor speeches that it would plunge much of the country into dark, dreary winter mornings where children commute to school and adults travel to work before sunrise. Trump countered in his post that the vast majority of Americans prefer afternoon sunshine over morning light and simply want to “Lock the Clock” rather than adjust time twice a year.

Despite the public pressure campaign, immediate legislative action remains unlikely because the Senate adjourned for recess and is not scheduled to reconvene for regular business until after the November midterm elections.
