Royal Caribbean Cruise Overboard: Passenger Rescued Alive After Nearly 24 Hours at Sea

The trending news regarding the Royal Caribbean cruise overboard incident centers on the miraculous rescue of a 44-year-old female passenger who survived roughly 20 to 24 hours floating in open water.

The Incident on the Odyssey of the Seas

The incident occurred aboard Royal Caribbean’s Odyssey of the Seas while the vessel was sailing the Ionian Sea off the coast of Greece, near the island of Zakynthos. The passenger, an El Salvador national, fell or jumped overboard during the voyage, prompting an immediate multi-vessel search-and-rescue operation coordinated by maritime authorities and the Hellenic Coast Guard.

The Search and Miraculous Rescue

Despite the low survival rates typical of man-overboard events in deep waters, the passenger managed to stay afloat with the assistance of a life ring.
